Murder in Shorts
Sunday, April 10 at 5:00 p.m.

at Mystery on Main, 119 Main Street, Brattleboro, VT, 05301

Murder in Shorts, the first workshop of 2011, focuses on the short story form and features mystery writers Leslie Wheeler, Nancy Means Wright and Michael Nethercott, who will explain ways to break into the short-story mystery market. Come early and meet the authors.

Leslie Wheeler's latest book is Murder at Spouters Point (Five Star, $25.95), the third in her Miranda Lewis “living history” mystery series. Her stories have appeared in five anthologies of crime stories by New England authors, published by Level Best Books, including the most recent, Thin Ice, to which she is a contributing editor. Wheeler has served as Chair of the Al Blanchard Award Contest  for five years

Nancy Means Wright's Midnight Fires (Perseverance Press, $14.95) is the first in the Mary Wollstonecraft mystery series; a second will be out in September.  She is also the author of five Ruth Willmarth series mysteries, and was an Agatha Award winner and Agatha finalist for her two children’s mysteries.  She has published stories in American Literary Review, Level Best anthologies, and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.

Michael Nethercott has been published several times in Alfred Hitchock's Mystery Magazine and his work has appeared in a number of anthologies, including Thin Ice.  He is a recent recipient of the Black Orchid Award for traditional mystery writing.

These workshops are free and open to anyone interested in writing, in mysteries and in the world of publishing.

Participants are encouraged to bring 1-2 pages of the opening of a mystery story in progress to read and be discussed.
